Christmas may still be six months away but it’s not too late to come clean with your kids about the existence of Santa Claus.
Look, I’m not going to go on a tirade about not getting their hopes up, and I do think it’s important for kids to be able to retain at least a small portion of wonder and innocence before society and ‘growing up’ rapes them of what little joy they may have had left, but consider the bigger picture for a moment.
Your kid will find out, soon enough, that Santa isn’t real. Then he’ll start to think Jesus isn’t real, either, and pretty soon he won’t be able to believe a damn word you say. Is that what you want? Your kid to find out you’re nothing but a got-dang liar?!
An added bonus to not lying to your children (as if integrity, itself, was not gift enough) is that most people save the really ‘good’ presents to come “from” Santa. These are the gifts the kids actually asked for in the first place, too! So, by keeping up the whole Santa bit, you’re depriving yourself of the materialistic love which could be. And we all know materialistic love is the best kind!
Give it some thought.
