News: A North Carolina school district has come under fire for advising a nine-year-old boy to keep his My Little Pony lunchbox at home, to avoid teasing from other students. Buncombe County Schools officials say it’s the path of least resistance, but Grayson Bruce’s parents say the district is ‘letting the bullies win.’
Comment: Conflict resolution is a very difficult thing. Ask any Mideast peace negotiator.
How long does lunch last when you’re nine? 20 minutes? Seems to me this is less about bullying and more about not making ‘much ado’ about a pretty small portion of the day.
When picking battles, this might be one to voluntarily lose. Let Grayson eat out of his favorite lunchbox at home all day long. Why subject him to ridicule that could last a lifetime, just so some dumb-ass parent can prove a point?!
