News: A 15-year-old girl died in the hospital, days after she tried to prevent a thief from stealing her iPhone.
Police say when a crook tried to make off with the device, Ruby Rubio jumped on the moving car. She was thrown from the vehicle when the driver swerved.
Comment: What a heartbreaking situation. No matter how expensive an iPhone may be, it’s not worth a life.
Teaching kids to protect and take care of their belongings is one thing, but the bigger lesson should always be to protect themselves first and foremost. The phone could have been easily tracked. Now — though the crook will be caught — a young woman is gone forever.
