News: A South Carolina transgender teen may sue the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Chase Culpepper says officials there forced him to remove makeup prior to taking a driver’s license photo.
Comment: This is about security, and nothing else. DMV officials made it clear that his makeup was against the policy of “purposely altering” or misrepresenting identity.
Could I paint my face with the colors of my favorite sports team and hope to get a new driver’s license photo? No. Because it’s likely I won’t always have my face painted that way, and if I get pulled over (or just want to get onto a plane), I’ll look like a different person without the makeup.
If this kid wants his license, he’s gotta remove the makeup. He can accept that fact now or later, after thousands in legal fees. You don’t win against the DMV. No, my friend, you don’t.
